She Wants To Be A Train

And there was me thinking she wanted to be a fairy.

Warm Front

I did tell you there was rugby at the weekends at the mo didn’t I?  Oh good, you won’t be expecting much then.

It’s The Little Things

I have children, therefore I have stickers.

I have a love/hate relationship with stickers.  They are great for almost guilt-free bribery (lets face it, bribery is never completely guilt-free) but they don’t seem to stick on the intended stickee for very long before they fall off and stick, limpet like, to the floor, the table, a chair, the oven.  Anywhere, in fact, that they’re not really wanted.  We must have about a thousand of them sticking innappropriately to things in our house.

This one had been irritating me for a while but I couldn’t take it off until I’d taken a picture of it.  I kept forgetting to take a camera upstairs.  I’d see the sticker and tut and sigh to myself, vowing that next time I’d remember my camera, or at least a phone.

The next time I go upstairs, that sticker is history.  Only another 998 to go, hopefully.

Walk This Way

I think pretty much anyone who reads my blog already reads All That Comes With It, Single Parent Dad and Xbox4NappyRash but just in case there’s anyone here who doesn’t I wanted to tell you about a little stroll that these guys and a few others are taking later this year.

They will be walking the full length of Hadrian’s Wall in aid of the Joseph Salmon Trust.

The Joseph Salmon Trust was set up by Neil and Rachael Salmon after their own son died aged only 3 in 2005.  The aim of the trust is to offer financial support to parents in the immediate, and ongoing aftermath, of losing a child. To help with funeral costs, memorials, or even to give a financial breather to parents when returning to their paid employment is impossible.  Payments – that sometimes are of relatively small monetary value – that make a gargantuan difference to grief stricken parents, and families.

So, if you haven’t sponsored them yet, here’s their JustGiving page.

Look how miffed she’ll be if you don’t click on that link.

Warming Up

We went to London today.  I know, the boy’s infectious, but it’s mild and we didn’t go near too many people.  He certainly didn’t touch anyone so I’m sure no-one could have caught it.  However, if you were in London today and find some spots on your hands in the next few days, sorry.

The best part of today was the realisation that we could walk around with our coats off.

Sadly, we’ve been paying for the mild hour or so with continuous rain since.  On the upside, I might be able to get a good “reflection in a puddle” shot tomorrow.

Mr Potato Head

It seems that we’ve successfully kicked off this year’s round of medical treatment for the boy.

Those of you who weren’t around last year won’t know that I’m mildly twitchy about the amount of time I spent in A&E and on the Children’s Ward of our local hospital as the boy’s asthma and then nut allergy became apparent.

Here are the first two contenders for 2010′s “Most Irritating Medical Condition The Boy Can Pull Out Of The Bag” Award – snappy title, don’t you think?  Firstly, thrush of the mouth which was brought on by use of the preventative inhaler – find yourself a 2 year old and get him to swill his mouth out.  Challenging, at best, I think you’ll find.  And, drum roll please, hand foot and mouth disease.  Anyone we’ve seen recently, honestly, it sounds worse than it is!  There’s some info here.

Luckily, he has his friend, Mr Potato to see him through the worst of his trials.  How long before I have to replace him, (Mr Potato, not the boy) and will the boy notice?

Apps

The iPhone camera is rubbish.  We all know this.  Even people who haven’t got iPhones know that the iPhone camera is rubbish.

Kerry over at Cloud of Starlings is wise in the way of camera apps for the iPhone so I took her advice and started playing with some apps myself.

The iPhone camera may well be rubbish, but it’s good fun too.

Conflict

I don’t think you should pick flowers.  I think that they should stay in the ground because they always look most beautiful when they’re where they should be.

Having said that though, I love giving and receiving flowers.  I think that nothing brightens up a room like a beautiful bunch of flowers.

I’m lucky, I got another bunch yesterday from a friend who came to visit (with a certain lovely little dog).

Scared

My children are terrified of animals.

No really, if a cat or dog comes anywhere near them they run off screaming.

Except for this one little dog, apparently.  She was very sweet and quite timid and they both fell in love with her.  So much so that the girl asked for a puppy when they’d left.

In other news, Xbox has had his baby!  Well, his wife has anyway.  A little girl, yay for them.

This is how the conversation unfolded around our breakfast table this morning.

Me “Xbox has had his baby”

The husband “Aah, that’s nice”

Me “mm, caesarean”

The girl “oh, what a lovely name”.

Handy

The girl has taken to drawing around her hands.  The boy was watching her absolutely fascinated.  She offered to do his hand, of course he ended up with more ink on his hands than the paper but they had fun together for 5 minutes.  Every 5 minutes they’re not trying to sit on each other is rare and precious!
