One Month

It’s been a month since I last posted. It feels like at least a year.

There’s so much I want to put down that I really don’t know where to start. I think that’s why I find blogging daily easier – I can crank it all out in bite size chunks and neither you or I get too bored with my whittering.

The girl has started school. She seems to be taking it much better than I am. I’m missing her terribly during the day. But I have to say that it’s wonderful to see her flying out of school in the afternoon, all her limbs flying and chattering on about her day.

Rainbows has been so much harder than I’d anticipated. There’s a lot to do outside of the meetings, especially as I’m the only permanent, regular leader (in-training). The meetings are getting easier. I found the first one, when I had to lead a meeting in front of all the parents, never having done anything like it before, a complete nightmare. Most of the girls came back the next week so it can’t have been that bad but I can’t remember the last time I felt that uncomfortable. I’ve finally managed to get some help with planning the meetings so I’m feeling a bit calmer about it all. Most days.

I’m a fully fledged nanny now. That’s been harder and more tiring than I was expecting but, again, seems to be getting easier as the days go by. The boys seem to be settling in (although there’s still a lot of competition over who gets which toys) and I’ve been lucky that although they’ve both been upset a couple of times, when their Mum leaves, I can usually distract them.  If nothing else they both love a story and I’m more than happy to oblige as it means I get a sit down. (Please don’t let me be jinxing myself on this one.)

I still do a fair amount of voluntary work. I help at nearly new sales twice a year and deliver newsletters for the NCT quarterly. I attend VBAC meetings about once a month to give people in a similar situation that I was in before the boy’s birth the benefit of my experience – I’m not sure how useful that is but there aren’t many of us around so I’m happy to help boost the numbers in anyway I can. I do some typing and odds and ends for the Vicar once or twice a week. It makes me feel like a grown up, pretending to be a secretary again.

Having re-read the above I am seriously wondering what possessed me to apply to do the Moonwalk next year. Ah well, it’ll all work out somehow and hopefully I won’t be doing it on my own but with a couple of very lovely ladies (maybe even more than a couple, you never know).

And now to end on a high note.  On Monday my husband and I celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary.  He supports me in more ways than he probably knows and never rolls his eyes to the ceiling (when I’m looking, anyway) when I come up with my latest harebrained scheme.

I’ll dedicate my first post in a month to the man that I have been lucky to have in my life for the last ten years.

So glad your job is working out for you. Kids love stories and the more advernturous and improbably, the more fascinated they become! I use your trick all the time and it works unfailingly.
