208/365 – Tiny Critics

It seems that my children are shaping up to be photographic critics extraordinaire.

I was going to post this one:

but they both said that this one was better:

On reflection, I think that they’re probably right.

I may go off to a quiet corner now to grumble about how everyone in this house has a better photographic eye than me.  Harumph.

  1. I actually prefer the first. I know nothing about photography at all. Latterly I have worked out that for me what works best is taking lots and lots of photos then maybe just maybe one out of possibly ten is ok’ish. I like the first, for these reasons, the boy seems to be responding to whatever the situation was at the time naturally. His skin tone is just beautiful. Its not that I don’t like the second, I just like the first more. Maybe because in the second he seems to be playing to the camera. The first less aware that his photograph is being taken. Either way he looks great in both. (without being ageist, so as to be all politically correct ‘n all that jazz) Tiny critics perhaps prefer a ‘hey look at me pose’ rather than the clever, portrait shot that an adult might! Maybe thats why teenagers adore those horrendous shots taken in photo booths, along the lines of look at us crammed together in a tiny space pulling silly faces together. Whereas, my idea of a nightmare would be doing just that. Am not saying the tiny critics are wrong, just that perhaps their persepctive is different from yours. If this were me, I would thank them for their input and go with my instinct. Just out of interest did you tell them which one you preferred before they gave their joint opinion? Great shots either way.
For some reason I have an image in my mind of you using photo’s to your advantage in years to come….. ie:- Unless you tidy your bedroom by the end of the day, I will show your boyfriend/girlfriend ‘that’ photo…. muttering something about going and finding a particularly memorable shot of them doing something, which to a teenager would be utterly mortifyingto an adult, just a cute toddler shot. I am so not saying I believe in bribery obviously as an appropriate means to parent….. as I said it was just a fleeting thought passing through my mind! Although as you take so many photos I would possibly think about an album titled, embarrasing toddler shots, or similar, which you could wave around a lot when they are older. You probably wouldn’t even have to actually have any photo’s inside it, just the title itself would probably suffice in years to come. tee hee.. sorry about me today, I think the mini heat wave is making me a little bonkers. I have done that awful thing where the comment is longer than the post.

  2. I like both of them :-)
