This is going to be a plum one day. And it’s growing in OUR garden – how exciting!

I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect the broccoli to grow. For some reason I thought it would be a delicate creature that couldn’t cope with the vagaries of our weather.
Not at all.

I knew I’d get fairly knobbly carrots when we grew our own.
I wasn’t expecting quite this knobbliness though.

Also, please note composition, focusing and lighting. This was shot on auto and pretty much looks exactly like I wanted it to. Even better, it only took me 20 shots to achieve it, as opposed to the 10 it would have taken on manual. Hmmm.

We think this one has struck lucky by growing under some leaves.
The boy can’t see it.
Let’s hope it doesn’t get too ambitious and start peeping out from those leaves. If it does it will probably mysteriously disappear, just like all it’s friends.

Dear carrot,
I might be wrong, I’d be the first to admit that I don’t know much about gardening, but I’m fairly sure that you are supposed to grow down into the ground.
Not up out of it.

Had better stay clear of my garden after the afternoon the husband spent planting these

and these

not to mention sweetcorn, parsnips, lettuce and broccoli.
Thank you, the husb.

Apparently it’s been the hottest April in the Uk since records began.
My poor sweetcorn can testify to that.

No post yesterday, my first 2011 365 fail (I think). I’m sure there’ll be more!
There was a good reason for no post. Saturday I walked 13 miles and then we went to see the Levellers (who were brilliant) so yesterday morning I was, shall we say, a little tired. Thanks to the husband, I had a kip yesterday morning while he cooked the Sunday lunch. How cool is he?
In the afternoon, we started the garden up again. The husb (being fabulous again) dug up all my leeks so I could blanche and freeze them. Then the kids and I got down to the serious business of planting seeds, the first lot of potatoes and re-potting our new blueberry bush.
It was wonderful to get out into the garden instead of being cooped up inside. Yay for spring!

Right. Now that we’re out of January I’m going to have to keep a serious eye on what number I’m posting. When I did this in 2008 I fluffed up the numbering towards the end and it’s seriously irritating having to go back and re-number all the posts. Tell me if I muck it up, will you?
Also, now that we’re out of January, I have to start thinking about the veg plot, to which end I now have this little lot sitting on my window sill sprouting.
Now, if only it would warm up a little I could get really excited about the garden!
