29/365 – When We Were Very Young

Of course, given her age, she should be reading Now We Are Six but it was only an email last night from Grandpa Grumps that made me think of A. A. Milne at all.

Both of my children have a copy of the complete works of A. A Milne but I’ve committed the crime of putting them on a high shelf “so that they don’t get damaged”.

After Grandpa Grumps’s email, I got her copy down and she spent a happy couple of hours reading poems to me.

She was most impressed when I recited a couple while she was reading them. I was most impressed that she could read and understand them.

Next stop, Wind In The Willows.

27/366 – Mostly Better

Their appetites aren’t up to much and the girl had a definite early afternoon dip (she even turned ice cream down), but they are very much on the mend.

As I type, there seem to be cars everywhere. Yup, back to normal.

26/366 – Up All Night

And yet refusing to sleep this afternoon. Apparently afternoon naps are just for babies.

I tried explaining that most days I would leap at the chance of an afternoon nap but she just wasn’t having it.

Instead, she opted for my nice cozy new blanket (I really should have bought two of those) on the sofa, and a film.

It was almost as good as a nap.

With any luck (and I am touching wood with my fingers crossed here) the bug has swept through our house in 24 hours and we’ll be finished with it now.

25/366 – Just Before

I took this just before the boy was taken poorly this evening. There is a stomach bug doing the rounds and he seems to have fallen foul of it. I’m just hoping that it doesn’t get the rest of us.

On the upside, they got in a couple of good games of snap before he started throwing up.

24/366 – In Loving Memory

We said goodbye to the husband’s grandpa, the children’s great grandpa, today at a brief crematory service and then a very beautiful and moving thanksgiving service in celebration of his life, at his local church.

I wasn’t going to post today but on reflection it seems fitting to re-post this picture of great grandpa, his son, his grandson and his great grandson, taken at the boy’s christening back in August 2008.

He was a wonderful man and he will be sorely missed.

The only problem with having an interesting table cloth is not wanting to cover it up with the everyday detritus that usually ends up on the table. Where will it all go?

Got a bored child?

Sit him on a kitchen worktop.

Make sure there is a metal recipe book stand with metal ends to the page holder strings and plenty of metal spoons hanging nearby.

Try not to develop a headache.

Overcome your fear of your child falling off said worktop to take a (very, very) quick picture with the nearest camera to hand.

Show said child the picture.

Catch him as he nearly falls off the worktop laughing. Odd child.
